Is The Little Brown Jug a real horserace?

Absolutely. Run every year in September. However, The Jug is run at the fairgrounds in Delaware, Ohio just north of Columbus. In the story I moved it to Scioto Downs on the south side of Columbus because I am lazy and didn’t want to add another location.

Why all the references to pie?

My mom and Becky loved a good piece of pie.

Are races ‘fixed’ like in this story?

“The Last Horseman” is a story. There’s more than a little bit of truth to it, but overwhelmingly, horse racing is fair and honest.
